Hair transplantation

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Hair transplantation is a surgical operation that includes extraction and implantation of hair follicles from one part to another part of the body which is generally applied to treat hair loss[1]. Extracted site is generally called donor area and implemented site is called recipient area. Results are generally visible in up to 9 months.

Hair transplantation surgery can take up to 8 hours depending on the number of grafts to be implemented. It can be applied to the scalp and face such as eyebrows, beard, moustache.

Hair transplant techniques[edit]

FUT[edit]

FUT, Follicular Unit Transplantation, is the oldest technique involves extraction of a strip of skin and implantation of follicles that are separated from the skin.[2]

FUE[edit]

FUE, Follicular Unit Extraction, is the most popular hair transplant technique in the world. This technique involves the extraction and implantation of individual hair follicles without disrupting the natural form of your hair. FUE procedure reduces the chances of scarring as it does not require any cuts and stitches[3].

DHI[edit]

DHI, Direct Hair Implantation, is one of the most recent hair transplant techniques. It involves extraction of individual hair follicles by a special equipment called the Choi implanter pen[4].

Cost of hair transplant[edit]

The cost of the operation generally depends on the number of grafts. The cost of the surgery varies significantly by countries. Average hair transplant costs are as follows[5]:

Country Average cost
USA $10,000
UK $8,000
Australia $10,000
Germany $7,000

Future of hair transplant[edit]

3-D printing, hair cloning and stem cell technologies might be available in the future which will not require using donor area; meaning that anyone can have full head of hair if these technologies will be accessible.[6]
