Halodoc
PT. Media Dokter Investama or better known as Halodoc is an Indonesian technology company that serves in the field of health teleconsultation. This company was founded in Jakarta in 2016 by Jonathan Sudharta.[1] Currently, Halodoc is available in 50 cities across Indonesia. As of June, Halodoc has been downloaded more than 1.5 million times on Google Play, the Android operating system[2]. Moreover, Halodoc is also available for iOS operating system users, on the App Store.
Through Halodoc, people can talk to a doctor, buy medicine, and do laboratory tests[3]. Everything is done via smartphone anytime and anywhere, 24/7. The goal of Halodoc is simplifying healthcare, which facilitates access to healthcare for all Indonesian people.
History
Halodoc was founded by Jonathan Sudharta, an Indonesian citizen who graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from Curtin University, Perth, Australia. The idea of establishing Halodoc arose from Jonathan Sudharta's experience when his daughter was sick. It was around 2 a.m., he panicked because his daughter had a fever. Being part of one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in Indonesia, he also knew several doctors. Without hesitation, he immediately contacted one of his acquaintances and asked about his child's condition and what first aid could be done. With the advice of a doctor, he performed first aid, and a few hours later his daughter's fever had dropped.
Thanks to this experience, he also realized that many people out there might have experienced the same thing. When a family member or friend is sick at an unexpected time and it is not possible to meet directly with a doctor. He later founded Halodoc with the aim of providing access to healthcare for all Indonesian people. At that time, he still worked as a sales representative at Mensa Group. Growing up and experienced in the healthcare industry, he is also committed to providing healthcare services that are more accessible.
On April 21, 2016, Halodoc officially launched by releasing Android and iOS based applications. Through this application, Indonesian people can get complete access to healthcare. Not only consulting with a doctor, but you can also buy medicine and do lab services.
Right now Halodoc has 20,000 doctors from all over Indonesia with various specialties. There are 113 types of specialties in Indonesia, and around 50 percent have joined Halodoc, such as dermatologists, ophthalmologists, pediatricians, and cardiologists. Out of those numbers, around 200 doctors can be contacted anytime for 24 hours, and some at certain times when they are not practicing.
Funding
Until now, Halodoc has worked with several other startups who are also investors, such as GO-JEK[4] and Blibli, Clermont, and NSI Ventures[5]. The total funding received reached 13 million USD or around 170 billion IDR. The funding is used to improve the quality of the application.
Since its establishment, Halodoc has experienced significant growth. In less than two years, Halodoc users have reached more than 1.5 million people and are growing.
Cooperation
Halodoc announced a collaboration with GO-JEK in May 2018. Halodoc collaborated with Go-Jek to meet people’s medical needs. The services provided are in the form of orders for medical needs that can be delivered quickly to the users. The collaboration is also to support GO-MED, medical services available in the GO-JEK application.
Through this collaboration, GO-JEK will connect the GO-MED feature in its application with Halodoc. Hence, GO-JEK users will be directed to Halodoc to order medical needs, such as medicines or vitamins.
In addition, Halodoc also formed a collaboration with several insurance companies, such as Allianz, Cigna, Medicilin[6], FWD Employees, Intiland, and Ultrasakti to facilitate user services.
