Hamid Onifade
Hamid Onifadé was born in Paris, France, and raised in Cotonou, Benin (West Africa). At the age of 14, he moved to the U.S. with his mother, Isamia Adjibi. Upon graduating from the High School of Environmental Studies in NYC, Onifadé attended Northeastern University to pursue a degree in Computer Engineering. It was during this time, at the age of 21, that he began his modeling career. While accompanying a friend to an open call at a New York City modeling agency, he was offered a contract on the spot.
The Beninese-French model made his career debut walking the Calvin Klein Fall/Winter 2015 fashion show. Shortly after that, he booked his first major campaign with GAP, photographed by Mikael Jansson. Onifadé has gone on to appear in numerous campaigns and has graced the runway for high-end fashion designers such as Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, and Brandon Maxwell. He has appeared in *VMan*, *WSJ*, *Out*, and *Details*. In 2019, he became the first Black male model to grace the cover of *Esquire* Magazine (US).
Since 2017, Onifadé has starred in a multitude of print and film campaigns for American fashion designer Ralph Lauren. Now, at age 25, he is the face of Ralph Lauren's Polo Red fragrance. This collaboration solidifies him as part of the Ralph Lauren family and further propels him into becoming one of the most successful male models of his time.
