HamoniKR(하모니카) OS, pronounced as (hɑːmɒnɪkɑː) is a Korean linux-based open operating system. The name came from Harmony and Korea(KR).
The project is a Korean Linux Project launched by korean government in 2013 to free their dependency on proprietary operating system. The goal of this project is to replace almost all government desktop PCs's OS with korean OS by 2020.
By 2016, project continuity has disappeared. HamoniKR OS is voluntarily modified and distributed by HarmoniKR community (https://hamonikr.org) participants.
It is a distribution of Linux Mint based on Linux Mint 17 Mate version. HamoniKR OS has the advantage of being installed and used immediately without any separate Korean settings, as it focuses on improving the Korean translation service, user interface, and user experience.
HamoniKR OS is also an open source and an open operating system.
When the beta version of HamoniKR OS was first released, internet banking at Woori Bank was impossible, but participants of HamoniKR OS community solved the problem and shared success stories. The original version of the Linux mint was uploaded on the official website to make it possible for anyone to translate it.
