Hamza Akram Qawwal[1] is a Pakistani Qawwali musician, songwriter, music producer and composer. He, along with his brothers (Taimoor Akram and Abdul Akram), are chiefly acknowledged as the qawwals of The 26th generation of the 805 years old[2] Qawwal Bachon ka Delhi Gharana as they share a common family tree with Ustad Munshi Raziuddin and Ustad Qawwal Bahauddin Khan. Keeping 26 generations of Qawwali tradition alive, Hamza Akram belongs to the "Qawwal Bacchon Ka Gharana or Delhi Gharana[3]" which is the ancient Khayal Gharana of the "Hindustani Classical music tradition" and was established by Amir Khusrau and his learners.
He predominantly sings in Urdu and Hindi but has also sung in various languages such as Punjabi, Siraiki, Persian and Purbi.
In 2017, Hamza Akram was awarded with the best emerging talent by Lux Style Awards[4] whereas his nominations included Sepma (Shaan-e-Pakistan Music Awards) for the best traditional music in 2018 and Most essential tune of the week by BBC ASIAN NETWORK.
Early Life and Family Background
Hamza Akram Qawwal was born on July 1, 1992, in Karachi, Pakistan. Hamza Akram Qawwal & Brothers are grandsons of the revered Munshi Raziuddin Qawwal. They acquired their early training in Eastern Classical Music from their paternal uncles Ustad Naseeruddin Saami and Ustad Fareed Ayaaz Qawwal. His ancestor Mian Saamat Bin Ibrahim was the first Qawwal of Subcontinent and first student of Hazrat Ameer Khusro[5]. Hamza belongs to the 26th generation of Qawwali which this world knows as ‘Qawwal Bachon ka Delhi Gharana’. Hamza Akram and brothers are emerging artists of Pakistan who have had several years of touring experience. They have toured UK, USA, UAE, Denmark, Norway, Bahrain etc.
