Hannah Hughes is an American actress, musician, and UX manager. She studied theatre at University of Alabama at Birmingham.[1] Hughes has frequently appeared in films by director Adam Wingard, most notably V/H/S2 and Pop Skull. She has held positions at several major Silicon Valley tech companies including Apple and Google, as well as her own company Romp.

Acting[edit]

Hughes first began appearing in shorts filmed in Birmingham, and has been a vocal proponent of acting outside the Los Angeles studio system.[2] She has appeared in more than 15 short films, included several where she played the character Laura Panic.[3]

In 2007 she appeared in the supernatural thriller Pop Skull. She plays the role of Morgan, a young woman who helps guide Daniel through an abrasive psychosis. Created on a budget of $3,000, the feature had a domestic premier at the AFI Film Festival an an international premiere at the Rome Film Festival.[4][5]

Hughes later appeared in the first segment of V/H/S2, called "Phase I Clinical Trials" across from director and writer Adam Wingard. The segment subverts horror clichés included in the first film.[6][7] V/H/S/2 debuted on January 19, 2013 at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival at the Park City's Library Center Theatre.[8] A sequel was released the following year. The V/H/S franchise became the most profitable horror anthology series of the decade.[9]

Filmography[edit]

Tech Industry[edit]

Hughes interned at Apple, Inc before eventually taking a full time role at the Cupertino, California headquarters. She produced several videos for the company as well as appearing publicly in guided tour videos for the iPod shuffle and Apple TV.[10] The walkthroughs were released on Apple.com and feature Hughes demonstrating the new features of various Apple products.[11][12]

Hughes has continued to work in film while holding design roles at Google and later Airbnb.[13] In 2015 she announced Romp, an iOS app to track your sexual activity.[14]

Personal life[edit]

Hughes is San Francisco resident, motorcycle enthusiast and avid gamer. In 2015 she co-hosted a Let's Play of the survival horror video game Alien: Isolation. In the twenty-hour running commentary, she and Eric Thirteen discussed various aspects of both the game as well as their experiences on various films.[15]
