Hannah Spencer (born 1991/1992 (age 34–35)) is a British Green Party politician who has served as a member of Trafford Council for Hale since May 2023.

In January 2026, she was chosen as the Green Party's candidate for the 2026 Gorton and Denton by-election.[1] She was also the party's candidate in the 2024 Greater Manchester mayoral election, where she ranked 5th with the 6.9% of the vote and lost to Labour candidate Andy Burnham.[2]

Politics

Spencer joined the Green Party just after the Covid pandemic, which she attributes to being "fed up of politicians deciding things that suit their interests at our expense".[3] She has campaigned against Greyhound racing.[4]

In May 2023, she was elected as a member of Trafford Council representing Hale ward,[5] and has been the Leader of the Green Party group on Trafford Council since May 2025.[6]

Spencer stood as the Green candidate in the 2024 Greater Manchester mayoral election,[7] and campaigned on addressing the cost-of-living crisis and the climate crisis, retrofitting more homes with insulation, encouraging active travel, and providing more support for domestic violence victims.[8] She ranked 5th with the 6.9% of the vote, losing to incumbent Labour mayor Andy Burnham.[2]

After Andrew Gwynne resigned from his post as Member of Parliament (MP), a by-election has called for his seat in Gorton and Denton.[9] On 30 January 2026, the Green Party announced that Spencer had been democratically selected by local party members to be Green candidate in the by-election.[10]

Personal life

Spencer has lived her whole life in Greater Manchester. She works as a plumber and is studying to become a plasterer.[11] She is the owner of four rescued Greyhound dogs.[4]
