Hans Magnus Bjørkroth (1960) is a Swedish-Norwegian musician and composer known for playing the traditional Swedish musical instrument Nyckelharpa and playing the violin in The Stavanger Symphony Orchestra (Norwegian: Stavanger Symfoniorkester, SSO) .[1]

Hans Magnus Bjørkroth was born in 1960 in Avesta, Sweden, but has been a Norwegian citizens in many years.[2]

Career[edit]

Hans Magnus Bjørkroth grew up in a living folk music environment in Dalarna in Sweden, Started to play the nyckelharpa around age 12 and gained the honorary title "Riksspelman" at the early age of only 18 years old. He has played as a soloist with several Norwegian and Swedish orchestras. He won the first price in the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod a music festival which takes place every year during the second week of July in Llangollen, North Wales. It is one of several large annual Eisteddfodau in Wales. Singers and dancers from around the world are invited to take part in over 20 competitions followed each evening by concerts on the main stage. Over five thousand singers, dancers and instrumentalists from around 50 countries perform to audiences of more than 50,000 over the 6 days of the event. He is a full time violinist in The Stavanger Symphony Orchestra since 1986.
