Identical twin brothers Tim and Phil Hanseroth are American musicians best known as members of singer/songwriter Brandi Carlile's band. They are former members of the Fighting Machinists The Hanseroth twins are Seattle, WA, natives who have been performing with Carlile since the early 2000s. The band surpasses easy categorization; Carlile's music draws from genres including folk, rock, country, alternative, and pop. [1] Both of the twins contribute vocals to the majority of Carlile's signature three-part harmony tracks. [2] The song "The Eye" from their album The First Watcher's Daughter, is emblematic of the group'd unique sound. [3] In addition to vocal harmonies, Tim Hanseroth is the band's guitarist, and he plays a variety of acoustic and electric instruments, including the banjo and ukulele.[4] Phil Hanseroth plays bass. Both brothers have numerous writing credits on Brandi Carlile albums. Most notably, Phil Hanseroth wrote The Story [5] which is often regarded as Carlile's breakthrough single. The title song of Carlile's 2007 album, The Story was featured on the Grey's Anatomy Soundtrack and in the 2011 musical Grey's Anatomy Episode and has been covered by other high-profile artists. [6] Phil Hanseroth is married to Brandi Carlile's sister Tiffany, and the couple have two children. [7] Both Hanseroth brothers, their wives and children live within a few miles of Carlile and her family in Washington State.
