Harley Laroux
Harley Laroux is an American author known for dark romance and erotic horror.[1] They have published six full-length novels and multiple short stories and novellas,[2] and they are best known for The Souls Trilogy and The Losers Duet.
Personal Life
Laroux is from Southern California and now lives in Seattle, WA with their husband. They identify as queer.[1]
Career
Laroux originally self-published both The Souls Trilogy[3] and The Losers Duet[4] before social media attention, particularly on BookTok, drew the attention of their current publisher, Kensington Publishing.[5] Their books have seen continued success in the dark romance and reverse harem spheres, often included in recommendation lists for the subgenres.[6][7] Their work has been compared to authors such as H. D. Carlton, Laura Thalassa, and Sarah J. Maas.[5]
Dirty First Dates (2019–2020)
Dirty First Dates is a trilogy of dark romance short stories[8] including Halloween Haunt (2019), The Arcade (2020), and The Museum (2020).
The Losers Duet (2019–2022)
The Losers Duet is a two part series, Losers: Part I (2022) and Losers: Part II (2022), with a prequel novella, The Dare (2019).[9] The series is considered a bully romance,[7] and follows Jess, self-described popular girl, and four love interests, Manson, Jason, Lucas, and Vincent. The story takes place in college as the love interests enact revenge on Jess for getting one of their number expelled in high school.[10] Book Riot praised the series for an "extremely developed storyline" with elements of "queer love" and "found family."[7]
The Souls Trilogy (2021–2023)
The Souls Trilogy, comprised of Her Soul to Take (2021), Her Soul for Revenge (2021), and Soul of a Witch (2023), is a dark fantasy romance series with each book focusing on a different romantic pairing.[3][11][12] Publishers Weekly wrote that the series appealed to readers based on "character-driven narratives, spirit of inclusivity, and kink/fetish content."[5] The traditionally published re-release of the series from Kensington reached the #4 spot on Publishers Weekly's trade paperback bestseller list in March 2024.[13]
House of Rayne (2025)
Laroux's first originally traditionally published title, House of Rayne is a sapphic gothic romance set on a haunted island in the Pacific Northwest.[14] It garnered a starred review from Publishers Weekly, which described the novel as "balancing truly embodied horror with genuinely sexy erotica,"[15] and it was shortlisted for Best Lesbian Romance at the 2026 Lambda Literary Awards.[16]
