Harold B. Johnson

Harold B. Johnson (Nebraska, March 17, 1931 – Arizona, August 23, 2013) was an American professor, specialist in Luso-Brazilian History.

Biography

He was a Professor at the University of Virginia, as well as at Yale University and the University of Chicago.

He was the author of numerous works on the history of Brazil and Portugal, including Camponeses e Colonizadores [Peasants and Colonizers] (Lisboa: Estampa, 2002) and O Império Luso-Brasileiro, 1500-1620 [The Luso-Brazilian Empire, 1500-1620] (in collaboration with Maria Beatriz Nizza da Silva). His most recent book is Dois Estudos Polémicos (Two Controversial Studies), in which he presents bold hypotheses about the sexual orientation of two icons of Portuguese history: Prince Henry the Navigator and King Sebastian, both of whom might have been homosexual.
