Synopsis[edit]

Harphool Singh was a British Soldier born in a village Julani near Jind in 1892. His father died during his childhood. He was tortured and locked up by the police, but released after some time. He joined the British Army where he served for ten years and took part in the First World War.

When he returned to his village, he murdered the police officer who illegally arrested and tortured him. Then he returned to his home to learn that his mother had died. Harphool believes that his mother was tortured and murdered by his stepbrothers, so he left home to start serving as a cow protector. A famous Haryanavi Ragni sung by Azad Khanda tells the story of Harphool Singh Jaat Julani.

He was hanged by the police in 1936 in Firozpur Jail. His body was not handed over to his friends or relatives due to the fear of rebellion.[2]
