Harry Holland (videographer)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Harry Robert Holland (born 14 February 1999) is an English actor, director and writer. At the age of 12, Harry began to create short videos with a camera and a laptop inherited from his older brother, and was cutting the footage he shot into short stories to practice his editing skills.[1] This led him to realise his passion for filmmaking, and wanting to make a profession out of it.

After graduating from the BRIT School in London, Holland began writing, directing and producing his own professional short films such as Roses for Lily (2020) and The Mysterious House on Hoarder Hill (2017).

Early Life[edit]

Holland was born in Kingston upon Thames, London, to Nicola "Nikki" Elizabeth Frost, a photographer, and Dominic Holland, a comedian and author. He has three brothers: older brother Tom (b.1996), Sam, twin brother (b. 1999) and his youngest brother Patrick "Paddy" (b. 2004).

Holland went to school at Donhead, a Roman Catholic preparatory school in Wimbledon in South West London, followed by Wimbledon College, along with his older brother Tom, and his twin brother, Sam. After Wimbledon College he attended The BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in Croydon. Holland also took dance classes with his brothers Tom and Sam, but but he wasn’t as interested as his brothers.[2]

At the age of 12, the Holland family moved to Thailand for 6 months to be with Tom while his starred in the film The Impossible (2012). Holland said that growing up on a film set was what made him initially fall in love with filmmaking, as he met with people in the industry, and saw how much of a collaborative process it was. From then on he would make his own short films, and later on decided to pursue it further in collage.[2]

Career[edit]

At the age of 14, Holland was cast in a minor role as Prince Harry in the Naomi Watts film, Diana (2013)[3]. Since that experience, he realised that he wanted to be behind the camera instead, as he felt more comfortable creatively coming up with how to tell a story.[2]

At the age of 16, Holland uploaded his first short film Tweet to YouTube, which he wrote, and co-directed with his older brother. Since then Holland has continued to upload his short films such as In the Middle of the Night (2016), Storybook Ending (2016) and the trailer for Mysterious House of Hoarder Hill (2017). His most recent film Roses for Lily was shot in July of 2017, and uploaded in April of 2020.[4] In 2016, Holland shot Hugo Hans - Wildrunners as a music video for the American artist Hugo Hans’ song ‘Wildrunners’, from his 2013 album ‘Beginners'.[5]

In an interview with Nikon Europe, Holland explains that his professional first job came about when his older brother asked if he would like to shoot the press tour that he was doing for his new movie Spider-man: Homecoming (2017) for promotional content, and his career took off from there.

While on the Spider-Man press tour, Holland was given a Nikon Z6 to try it out, although not really having any intention of using it. On the second week of the press tour, Holland’s main camera broke, so he resorted to using the Z6 and ‘hasn’t put it down since’. After that, Holland has done interviews and promotional videos with Nikon to talk about his experience in the film industry as a videographer and photographer, as well as his experience with the Z6.[6]

In addition to Holland’s film and promotion work, he has just over a million followers on Instagram, where he posts behind the scenes of his shoots, his day to day life, and shares his photography skills.

Upcoming Projects[edit]

Holland has been part of the filming crew on a few films now. In August of 2017, Holland worked with the camera crew of Chaos Walking (film) which is set to be released in January of 2021. Holland was also part of the filming crew on Cherry, an upcoming American crime drama film directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.

Personal Life[edit]

In 2017, Holland’s parents Nikki and Dom Holland, set up ‘The Brothers Trust’, alongside Harry and his 3 brothers. Using Tom’s reach and popularity to run a number of events each year, the Brothers Trust holds events and raises money to be granted to charities they support.[7][8] The Brothers Trust is a UK Registered Charity.[9]
