Harsimrat Kaur (campaigner)
Harsimrat Kaur (born 1992) is an English mathematician who has been a campaigner for a British exit from the European Union (Brexit)[1][2] as a member of Priti Patel's Women for Britain.[3][4]
Biography[edit]
Kaur was raised in Calverley, near Bradford, and London. Her grandparents emigrated to the United Kingdom from Lahore, Pakistan, in 1963, and her father followed from Delhi in 1964. Kaur was educated at Dixons City Academy, Bradford, and subsequently at the University of Reading (2010–2014), from where she received a master's degree in mathematics.
Kaur is a member of the Conservative Party. In 2014 she was part of the party's regional executive in Yorkshire and Humberside[5] and in 2016 she is a board member for the Northern Tory Policy Group.[6] She has also set up a grassroots Sikh Tories group to ensure Sikhs are included in conservative politics,[7] and she has been invited to speak at Conservative Party events on racism.[8]
Kaur has spoken in favour of Brexit at the Cambridge Union Society[9] and was a "Leave" representative on the BBC's EU Referendum: The Great Debate on 21 June 2016.[10][11]
As of 2016 Kaur works at the head office of Morrisons supermarket.[12]
