Harvey Kertzman
Harvey Kertzman (May 6, 1949 to present) is an American inventor holding four U.S. patents (see below), former Quincy, Massachusetts mayoral candidate, former president of the Massachusetts Aviation Historical Society, owner of Quincy Gas Inc., and president of Kertzman's of Quincy Inc. Kertzman grew up in an automotive junkyard in Quincy, Massachusetts, which later became Kertzman's of Quincy, a major automotive service facility garage serving the South Shore of Boston. He has served in many occupations, including licensed aircraft mechanic, licensed aircraft pilot, truck driver, human blood donation courier, car repossession patrolman, and private investigator. Although broken most recently by an Australian team in 2005, Kertzman and four others previously held a Guinness Book of World Records distinction for fastest automotive engine change, having performed an engine change on a Volkswagen Beetle in 1 minute and 37 seconds [cn]. During a building collapse occurring in Brighton, Massachusetts, in 1971, Kertzman alerted scores of construction workers to escape from certain death. Unfortunately, a few workers did not hear his warning and perished beneath the rubble 2000 Commonwealth Avenue collapse. Kertzman hosted radio shows called "Consumers and Cars" and "Grassy Knoll Gazette" in the Boston and North Shore market for many years on stations WJDA and WNSH. In 2010, Kertzman and another man attempted the rescue of two drowning victims in South Palm Beach, Florida. Unfortunately, the victims could not be resuscitated [1].
US Patents [2] Tide operated power generator (US4249085): An improved tide-operated power generating apparatus is disclosed in which a hollow float, rising and falling with the ocean tide, transmits energy to a power generator. The improvement comprises means for filling the float with water during the incoming tide to provide a substantial increase in the float's dead weight during the outgoing tide. Means are further provided to then empty the float before the outgoing tide, whereby the float becomes free to rise again on the next incoming tide.
Razor blade lubrication strip (US7506854B2): A wall-mountable safety razor holder consisting of a planar member, two razor supports extending outward from the planar member, two razor retaining members extending upward from the support members, and a corrosion-inhibiting, water-repellent strip of material disposed along the support members.
Rubber stamp cleaning device (US4774886): Rubber stamp cleaning apparatus comprising a roll of self-adhesive tape rotatably mounted on a base having a platen upon which a portion of the tape is secured, tacky side up. The stamp is cleaned by tamping on the tape.
Automotive bulletproof and leakproof radiator (US4825937): A sealing apparatus for isolating a ruptured motor vehicle radiator tube connected between two fluid reservoirs consisting of a valve positioned to seal at least one end of the tube and a bar of impact-shatterable material disposed within the tube arranged to bias the valve apart from the end of the tube.
