Hashem Minaiy is the CEO & Managing Partner of The Bicycle Hotel & Casino in Bell Gardens, CA.
Early life
Hashem Minaiy is the oldest of seven brothers and sisters and, as a young child, grew up working in his father's successful company. From an early age, his father stressed the importance of attaining an education. His father's wish was for him to attend college in the United States to pursue a medical or engineering degree. He came to the United States in 1979 and attended Alliant International University in San Diego, formerly known as United States International University. Fulfilling his father's wish, he completed a five-year degree in just three years and graduated in 1983 with a degree in civil engineering.
Early career
After college, while Minaiy was searching for a job in civil engineering, a good friend gave him the idea of becoming a card dealer as a means of temporary employment. He attended Ace Dealing School and started as a dealer at The Commerce Casino located in Commerce, California in January 1985. Minaiy quickly worked his way up through the ranks and was eventually promoted to the position of Casino Manager. After 14 years at the Commerce Casino, he decided it was time to pursue other opportunities and became a Partner at The Bicycle Casino in 1999.
At The Bicycle Hotel & Casino
Although a Partner at The Bicycle Casino, Minaiy also worked as a Casino Manager. This was a challenge that Minaiy welcomed since the business was in decline and experiencing hardships. He made every effort to broaden his knowledge and personally learn about the many different department operations. He became deeply involved in working together with the casino Partners to implement successful programs, resulting in propelling the Casino forward. Minaiy's philosophy of protecting investments and forward thinking helped elevate him to the position of Managing General Partner & CEO in February 2011.
Minaiy has always been a visionary. After accepting the position as Managing General Partner & CEO, he was a huge proponent of building a hotel addition to the Casino. He began to drive that vision into a reality with the help and support of another Casino Partner, Robert H. Carter. Together they convinced the shareholders to join their ambitious vision of a hotel expansion.
His dream was realized on October 22, 2013, when The Bicycle Casino held its official hotel groundbreaking ceremony. Special guests, California Governor, Jerry Brown, and State Senator, Ricardo Lara, along with a host of other supporters, were in attendance to celebrate this monumental milestone.[1] Once hotel construction began, Minaiy and his Partners started the hard work of solidifying building and design plans. Believing in providing guests the very best, Minaiy worked hands-on with the hotel design firms to ensure luxury was inserted in every detail. He felt it was important that the hotel offered lavish comforts that even the most discerning guests could appreciate.
In December 2015, with the direction of Minaiy, The Bicycle Hotel & Casino underwent major construction and now includes a seven-story, $50 million, 117,907-square-foot luxury four-star boutique hotel.[2] The new hotel includes 99 guest rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center, renovated restaurants, an outdoor pool deck with a spa and sauna, event and private meeting spaces, and a new microbrewery, The Bike Brewery, etc.[3] Additionally, improvements have been made to the gaming space, but Minaiy insists poker and poker tournaments will continue to be the focus of the Bicycle Hotel & Casino.[4]
Whether traveling for business or pleasure, Minaiy wanted The Bicycle Hotel & Casino designed as a comfortable retreat where guests can "stay and play" while enjoying the many new hotel and gaming options. The seven-story, first-class property will feature 100 elegantly appointed guest rooms and is slated to open in the fall of 2015. Minaiy could not be more proud of what he and his partners have accomplished.[5]
Other Interests
Over the years, Minaiy has personally been an avid supporter of the healthcare industry, especially for children. He believes in living a healthy lifestyle and incorporating fitness as part of a daily routine. As Managing General Partner & CEO, Minaiy inspires his team to stay fit and healthy by financially supporting wellness programs and health fairs throughout the year.
Minaiy and other casino partners played a prominent role in establishing The Bicycle Casino Community Foundation Archived June 29, 2015, at the Wayback Machine in 2012, a non-profit organization that provides funding for programs benefiting youth in the surrounding community. The primary focus of the foundation is the education, health, and welfare of children.[6]
