Hate Hurts You (public service announcement)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Hate Hurts You is an anti-hate PSA created in 1974 and then recreated in December 1982 by the Jewish Chautauqua Society.[[1]]

Description[edit]

The PSA consists of an angry cartoon man walking towards the screen. His face gets bigger, angrier and redder as he gets closer to the screen until his face covers it entirely and then explodes. In the background, this song plays:

When you hate,

Who do you hurt the most?

Hate hurts YOU!

An extended 33-second version of the ad from 1974 began with the cartoon man walking from a distance even further away from the screen before heading towards the viewer, and the narrator did not sing but had an echoing, ominous voice that was much deeper. That version had scared children, and they had to tone it down. No footage of the extended version is known to exist on the Internet.
