Hausten (ship)
Cargo ship «Hausten» is a carvel built cutter built in Ølve i 1917. The ship is 62 feet long, 15,6 feet large and 7,3 feet deep. It was built a 33 tonner with a Avance 30 hp engine. New name is Sant’Agata.
History
"Hausten" was built by Jens Nerhus in Ølve - Hardanger. The vessel was launched on the so-called "day of penance and prayer" in October 1917. Delivered in 1918 to the shipowner Erik M. Hammarhaug in Vikane, Kvinnherad. The vessel was named "Hausten" (“Autumn”) after the seasons, and was a real Hardanger cutter.
School ship
In 1986, a group of teachers from the Steiner school in Bergen went to purchase "Hausten". At the same time, the foundation Hausten was established. The purpose was to create opportunities for young people to have active experiences in nature, and to give them the opportunity to gain experience in outdoor life.
From around 2009, Soon Sjøskole became the owner of "Hausten", they operated her for 10 years, but do not see themselves in a position to keep her, with changed operations, and smaller transfers/subsidies from the State.
