Havle
Havle Women's Association is an islamic feminist association which was founded in October 2018 in Turkey. It was founded in order to serve the need for a roof where feminist women from different Muslim women's organizations can come together and produce information and policy within a Muslim feminist framework. Their main motivation is to compete with the discriminatory interpretations of Islam against women and to raise the voice of approaches that empower women. The name of the association comes from Havle Binti Salebe who is the subject of the first four verses of Al-Mujadila in the Holy Quran. In short, Havle Binti Salebe opposed the injustice caused by her husband and in response to her prayers, Allah forbade a pre-Islamic tradition which is called thihar. The name also refers to a speech of Hidayet Şefkatli Tuksal where she said, "Some time will come, young women will establish an association called “Girls of Havle”, and I will become a member."[1]
Havle aims to increase the inclusion of Muslim women in the feminist movement through making the differences visible. Therefore, the association focuses on specific issues such as the discriminations towards Muslim women who prefer to wear/not to wear hijab or the struggles of Muslim women in the mosque [1]. The "Reçel Blog" which was also founded for this purpose, publishes the articles on Muslim women's daily experiences, perception of social issues, interests, curiosities, troubles, hopes, concerns and struggles [2]. Havle also works on local issues such as breaking the false ideas and legitimizations (by using the name of Islam) of forced marriages and child marriages in Turkey [1].
