Hawk Newsome
Walter "Hawk" Newsome is a civil rights activist and president of Black Lives Matter Greater New York. Hawk was raised in the South Bronx. He became involved in Black Lives Matter activism following the July 2013 acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. He became a full-time activist follwoing the death of Eric Garner and eventually established Black Lives Matter Greater New York in July, 2016. He most notably received national attention after giving a speech at the pro-Trump "Mother of All Rallies" (MOAR) on September 16, 2016.
