Hayden James Durke (born May 1, 2002) is an American former professional baseball pitcher formerly in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.
Career
Durke attended North Vermillion High School in Maurice, Louisiana.[1] He went unselected in the shortened 2020 Major League Baseball draft, and fulfilled his commitment to play college baseball at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette for the Ragin' Cajuns.[2] As a freshman in 2021, he was named their Opening Day starter.[3] For the season, he appeared in 14 games and went 2–3 with a 5.26 ERA.[4] He pitched only 12 1⁄3 innings as a sophomore in 2022, and entered the transfer portal after the season.[5] He transferred to Rice University, but did not make an appearance in the 2023 season.[6][7] He pitched for the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League in the summers of both 2022 and 2023.[8][9][10] He was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 13th round of the 2023 Major League Baseball draft and signed for $350,000.[11]
Durke made his professional debut with the Arizona Complex League Diamondbacks, pitching to a 9.72 ERA over seven relief appearances. He spent the 2024 season with the Visalia Rawhide and the Hillsboro Hops, going 4–1 with a 3.18 ERA, 72 strikeouts, and 45 walks over 51 innings between both teams. He was assigned back to Hillsboro to open the 2025 season and was promoted to the Amarillo Sod Poodles in late May.[12] In July, he was promoted to the Reno Aces.[13] Over 45 relief appearances between the three teams, Durke went 3–3 with a 4.22 ERA, 74 strikeouts, and 35 walks over 49 innings pitched.[14]
