Headfone is an audio platform based out of Bengaluru, India. On Headfone, users can listen to stories in multiple genres like Horror, Romance, Comedy, Religion, Shayari, and Radio Stations. History
Founded in 2017 by former Facebook software engineers Pratham Khandelwal and Yogesh Sharma, Headfone is a social audio platform where anyone can record, share, and listen to audio stories. It connects podcasters, storytellers, artists, musicians, and motivational speakers to listeners, and also helps writers, voice-over artists, sound engineers, and musicians to produce original audio series on the platform[2]. Headfone doubles up as a social audio network and lets users record their own podcasts and publish them on a public profile.
The company was part of Axilor Ventures' 8th accelerator batch. Axilor is a Bengaluru-based early-stage seed fund and startup accelerator[3]. In July 2019, Headfone raised $750,000 in seed funding from Chinese venture capital investor Fosun RZ Capital[3].
In Jan-2021, Headfone raised USD $3 million as part of its Series A funding round[4]. The funding was led by South Korean-based venture capital firm Hashed and Seung Yoon Lee, founder of mobile serial fiction app Radish Fiction. This is the first investment of Hashed in India. It also marks Radish Fiction founder's debut bet in the country[4]. The India-based company claims that its Android application has been downloaded by over 5 million users across India[1], with 70% of its user base distributed across tier 2 and tier 3 cities. The company also engages over 100,000 content creators on its platform[2].
