Heather Black (d. 2020) was a Scottish social worker and activist during the HIV/AIDS epidemic..[1] Black founded SHADA (Support Help and Advice for Drug Addiction) in Muirhouse, Edinburgh in 1984. Black led SHADA for 13 years, running a clean-needle programme to reduce the transmission of HIV between intravenous drug users and campaigning for better support for heroin users.[2]
SHADA later became the North Edinburgh Drug and Alcohol Centre.[3] Black died in 2020 of oesophageal cancer.[1]
