Heather Mack is an American citizen from Oak Park,IL who is currently serving a prison sentence at Kerobokan Jail for the murder of her mother, Shiela von Wiese-Mack, while on vacation in Bali, Indoneshia in 2014.. Mack's case was widely publicized internationally, due to the fact that she stuffed her mothers body in a suitcase.

Personal Life

Heather Mack was born to renowned musician and composer James L. Mack and Shiela Von Wiese Mack in 1995. She lived in Oak Park, IL until her imprisionment. Her father James, died August 6th, 2006 in Athens, Greece, after suffering a pulmonary embolism in his hotel while on vacation with Heather and Sheila. James's death has been speculated to be the beginning of the following out for Heather and Sheila, who had the police called to their Oak Park home over 80 times.

Heather attended Oak Park and River Forest High School from 2010-2014. It was here she met her boyfriend Tommy Schaefer, who was also convicted in the murder of the Sheila Von Wise-Mack. In 2015, Heather gave birth to daughter Stella, who is fathered by Tommy. Stella was able to live inside Kerbokokan Jail with Heather until she was 2, until she was issued to a foster mother in Bali.

The Murder of Sheila Von Wise Mack

In August of 2014, Sheila Von Weis Mack and her daughter Heather arrived at the St. Regis Hotel is Nusa Dua, Bali. After arrival, Heather Mack used her mothers credit card to buy a plane ticket a luxury suite for her boyfriend, Tommy Schaeffer, without her mothers permission. On the night of August 7th, 2014, security camera video at the St Regis showed the Sheila having an argument with Schaefer in the hotel lobby. Shortly after, Tommy Schaeffer killed Sheila with a metallic blunt object in the room, which then led to Heather and Tommy stuffing the body of Sheila Von Wiese Mack into a suitcase.The two then put the suitcase with the body into the trunk of a cab outside the St Regis. After the couple did not return, a security guard found blood outside the suitcase and advised the cab driver to go to the police station. After police found the body inside the suitcase, both Mack and Schaeffer were arrested at a nearby motel. The couple told police that Sheila was killed by robbers, but they were able to escape

Trial

On August 15, 2014, both Mack and Schaeffer were designated as prisioners. On August 20th, a urine test confirmed that Mack was pregnant, which was previously thought to be a ruse for her to be sent home. September 19th, Schaeffer admitted to killing Sheila and Heather admitted to helping him stuff the body into the suitcase. They were both charged with premeditated murder on on January 14th, 2015, which was punishable to death by firing squad.

Schaeffer alleged that he had killed Sheila Von Wiese Mack after she had threatened to kill their unborn baby, and choked him for half a minute. Heather Mack was sentenced to 10 years in prision, and Tommy Schaeffer to 18 years.

On September 23rd, 2015 the cousin of Tommy Schaefer, Robert Bibbs, was arrested in Chicago on federal charges for conspiring with the couple to kill Von Wiese-Mack for advising Mack and Schaefer about how to kill Mack's mother. He was sentenced to 9 years in prison June 2nd, 2017.
