Dr. Betancourt is the founder of the Culture and Behavior Laboratory (CBL) at Loma Linda University. The mission of the Culture and Behavior Laboratory is to advance the study of culture in psychology and its contributions to understanding behavioral and social phenomena relevant to health and well-being.

Much of the work in the lab is guided by the Betancourt Integrative Model of Culture, Psychology, and Behavior [3] , and our methodological approach to the study of culture and diversity. Generally, our research examines the structure of relations among socio-structural, cultural, and psychological factors as determinants of behaviors relevant to health and social issues.

The CBL has conducted research and trained scholars at Loma Linda University, in Southern California since 1998. Cross-cultural exchange is key to the success of the lab. Over the years, we have established international collaborations with scholars and institutions such as Universidad de La Frontera, in Chile, and other universities in Latin America.
