Héctor Fuentes (b. January 18, 1963) is a Mexican actor, singer and host.
Biography
Hector Fuentes is a Mexican actor and former singer of the popular band "Sonora Santanera". He is the son of †Dr. Carlos Fuentes Olano and †Dolores Arriaga Castro. He has been married to Angelica Salinas Urdanivia since 1991 and has two sons, Claudio Fuentes Salinas and Mariano Fuentes Salinas.
Hector's father was the son of Mexico's former Secret Service Chief, General Brigadier Jesus Fuentes del Bosque. Dr. Carlos Fuentes was a prominent doctor who had obtained his master's degree as a Pathologist from Harvard. His mother was a loving housewife.
In 1987, Hector obtained his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from La Salle University Campus Mexico City. During his years in college he was part of the college theater group. At that time he wrote his first songs, learned how to play guitar, took his first private singing lessons and ended up becoming the lead singer of a band called Graffiti, with which he recorded his first album. While in college, he performed for the first time as a singer at a bar called "El Faisan Dorado" in Mexico City, with a group of friends who called themselves "Los Tres Armonicos y Algo Mas".
After finishing college, he went to New York to take private singing lessons with Broadway singer and teacher Shirley Calloway (mother of famous New York singer Ann Hampton Calloway). When he returned to Mexico he worked as a backup singer on the OTI TV Festival and other TV shows backing up singers such as Rocio Durcal and Eugenia Leon.
He worked for three years as the backup singer for Guadalupe Pineda, and many others such as Mexican idol Juan Gabriel during his New York tour at the Radio City Music Hall and the National Auditorium in Mexico City.
In 1996, Hector took a huge step by winning a very tough casting and becoming the "Bolerista" singer of the "Sonora Santanera", a tropical musical institution of Mexico created by Carlos Colorado 40 years earlier. In 1999 he quit the band and went on in search for new challenges. In 2001 he signed up with BMG records, and recorded his first solo album "Fiesta con Chispa".
In 2008 he moved to Miami where he started his journey as an actor by shooting with Telemundo El Rostro de Analía, with the role of a Prosecutor. He shared credits with Elizabeth Gutiérrez, Martín Karpan, Maritza Rodríguez y Karla Monroig.
Later on, he guest starred in Más sabe el diablo en 2009, sharing credits with Gaby Espino, Miguel Varoni, Jencarlos Canela y Karla Monroig. His role was Luis Martínez.
In 2010 he had a prominent role on Perro amor, by Telemundo, sharing credits with Carlos Ponce. That same year, Hector was invited to be part of the classification jury for The Latin Recording Academy, Latin Grammy, and was also a jury at the final of the Miami International Song Festival among others.
The following year Hector Fuentes appeared on Aurora, with the role of Dr. Parker. Later on he participated in Eva Luna, La Casa De Al Lado and Relaciones peligrosas. After finishing RP, he participated as a co-host of the successful and international Talk Show "Quien Tiene la Razon". He was also the main host on the TV show México Mi Amor.
In 2012 Hector Fuentes acted on El rostro de la venganza with the role of Salvador Casas, sharing credits with Saúl Lisazo, Marlene Favela, and David Chocarro, among others.
In 2017 he appeared on Telemundo´s Jenni Rivera "Mariposa de Barrio" with the role of Juan Lopez, the father in law of Jenni Rivera.
Singer
Also known as "The Voice of Smoke and Velvet". In 1996 he became a lead singer for the legendary Mexican group Sonora Santanera, also known as La Internacional Sonora Santanera. While being part of the band, Hector Fuentes was signed up along with the band with Universal Music. He appeared in dozens of TV shows not only in Mexico but also in other countries and major radio stations relevant to Mexico and abroad, breaking audience records.
Hector Fuentes managed to penetrate into the latin pop culture while being part of the most transcendent musical institution and popular acclaim in Mexico and the Mexican communities in the United States as well as many other countries in Latin America. Furthermore, he has participated in solo musical productions for publishers such as BMG with which he produced the album "Fiesta con Chispa" and a latter titled "Tributo a las Sonoras".
In 2010 appeared acting and singing Ranchera music in Telemundo's production "Perro amor". In 2011 he appeared again on Telemundo's "La casa de al lado" on several episodes including the last one, portraying an immigrant who later became a famous Mariachi singer.
In 2015 Puerto Rican and Latin Grammy nominee producer Isidro Infante produced a salsa genre single song by Hector Fuentes titled ¨Tú Eres Mi Tormenta".
In 2016 he started touring his his tropical Boleros show "Anthology of Boleros".
