Helen Stetter
Helen Caroline Stetter (November 18, 1893 – June 1, 2007) was the oldest living Nebraskan and, at the time of her death at age 113 years 195 days, the fourth oldest verified person in the world. The only Nebraskan older than she was, was Clara Huhn, born in 1887, who died in 2000 at the age of 113 years and 327 days. No other Nebraskan has lived longer in the state than she has. Stetter was also listed as one of the 12 oldest people in the world in the 2007 Guinness Book of Records. She was the oldest living Nebraskan, the oldest to have lived her entire life in Nebraska, the second-oldest Nebraska born person, the second-oldest living American and the world's fourth-oldest known person ever.[1]
Biography[edit]
She was born on November 18, 1893 in in Chadron, Nebraska to Mary D. (1857-c1956) Henry Stetter (1854-c1925). Her mother, a homemaker, lived to be nearly 100 years old. Her family moved to Valentine, Nebraska when she was about 5 years old in 1897.[2]
She never married or had any children. Before she moved to the Pine View Good Samaritan Center in Valentine, Nebraska in 1989, Stetter made candy and cookies to sell or give away. She died on June 1, 2007 in Valentine, Nebraska, age 113 years, and 195 days, the fourth oldest verified person in the world.[1]
