The All Stars Baseball Club Incorporated is an amateur baseball club located in Hendra, Queensland, Australia, that participates in the Greater Brisbane League competition and the Brisbane Metro competition. It is the oldest club in Queensland after the Windsor Engineers who were formed in 1946, but renamed the Windsor Royals in 1956.[1]
History[edit]
Mark Gilley, the Queensland Baseball President after World War II organised the rebirth of baseball in Queensland by featuring the Windsor Engineers to play a composite side of what was left of the rest of the competition. This side, he named the 'All Stars'. The team then was formed into a club with the backing of inaugural club president Alan Dempster. The team played in various grades until 1958 when the club acquired its second team and moved to its current home field, Bannister Park in Hendra. The team then won its first A-Grade premiership in 1960 largely due to experienced Lismore coach, Lawrie Thew. In this year, All Stars junior teams were formed and the club continued to grow.[2]
The Hendra team won the wooden spoon in the Greater Brisbane League 2008-09 season, but their B-Grade team managed to place as runners up in the competition.
