Hendrix Johnson is an American football wide receiver best known for his collegiate career at Northern Arizona University (NAU), where he emerged as one of the program’s most accomplished players. He is the Lumberjacks’ all-time leader in career receptions and also earned a rookie minicamp invitation from the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL) following his college career.

Early life and high school

Johnson grew up in Anthem, Arizona and attended Boulder Creek High School. A multi-sport athlete, he excelled in football as both a wide receiver and safety, while also competing in track and field.[1]

As a senior in 2018, Johnson recorded:

  • 1,446 receiving yards
  • 20 touchdowns

He ranked 4th in the state of Arizona, 1st in Division 6A, and 64th nationally in receiving yards that season.[1] He was also recognized among MaxPreps’ "Top 100 Under-the-Radar" high school football players.[1]

College career

Johnson played five seasons at Northern Arizona University from 2019 to 2023. He became a five-year team captain, starting every game of his collegiate career—an estimated 50 consecutive starts.[2]

By the end of his senior season, Johnson:

  • Became NAU’s all-time leader in receptions (over 200)
  • Ranked top five in receiving yards (2,600+)
  • Ranked top ten in receiving touchdowns (17)

On Senior Day in November 2023, he broke the school record for career receptions.[2]

Professional pursuits

After his college career, Johnson was invited to the Denver Broncos rookie minicamp in May 2024.[3] He was one of 27 players participating, but the Broncos ultimately chose not to sign any tryout players from that camp.[3][4]
