Henrik Johan Schauman

Henrik Johan Schauman, born in 1649 in Ogers District, died on March 19, 1730, was a Swedish military officer and the progenitor of the noble Schauman family.

Henrik Johan Schauman likely entered service in 1662, as he was noted in 1706 to have served for 44 years. In 1669, he became a pikeman in the Life Guards, later advancing to non-commissioned officer and becoming an ensign in Wangelin's Dragoon Regiment in 1671. Schauman was promoted to lieutenant in 1675, captain-lieutenant in 1676, and cavalry captain in the Åbo County Cavalry Regiment in 1678. He was naturalized as a Swedish nobleman in 1686, referencing a noble letter that was reportedly destroyed when the Oger estate was burned by the Russians in 1656. Introduced to the Swedish House of Nobility in 1697, he became a major in the Åbo County Cavalry Regiment in 1701, lieutenant colonel the same year, and served as acting regimental commander from 1703 to 1706. He was discharged in 1706 and granted a pension in 1714, to be drawn from the Life Regiment on Horseback. He then leased a farm in Hammarby Parish, Uppland, but later resided at Monnois in Lemo Parish.
