Henry Kelly

Henry Kelly is a British video game artist, author, and musician. He is known for his work on multiple AAA and independent titles, his published writing on environment art, and his career as an independent music artist. Kelly has contributed to games including Sniper Elite 4, Sniper Elite 5, Zombie Army 4: Dead War, Zombie Army VR, Strange Brigade, Squad, Synapse, and Off The Grid.

Early life

Kelly was born in Liverpool, England, and grew up in the Kirkdale district. He attended Kirkdale Primary School before moving to Birkenhead following his parents’ separation, where he studied at Rock Ferry High School.

Career

Kelly began working in the video game industry as an environment and foliage artist. He developed a reputation for creating high-fidelity biome and vegetation systems, and his innovative foliage material workflow was showcased at the 2018 Game Developers Conference (GDC).[1]

His credits include work at Rebellion on Sniper Elite 4, Sniper Elite 5, Zombie Army 4: Dead War, Zombie Army VR and Strange Brigade; at Offworld Industries on Squad; at Rewind on WeaVR and the Formula 1 Grand Prix 2021 introduction sequence; at nDreams on Synapse; at Ubisoft on an unannounced title; and at Gunzilla Games on Off The Grid.[2]

Kelly is also an online educator, having taught the course Organic World Building 101 at Vertex School.[3]

In 2021, Kelly authored a chapter in the book Environment Art in the Game Industry, published by Taylor & Francis.[4] He has also been featured in interviews discussing his photogrammetry and material creation workflows.[5]

Music

Under his own name, Kelly writes and records pop and hip-hop influenced music, often drawing on personal experiences. His music is available on streaming platforms including Spotify.[6]
