Henry Shane

Henry Shane (born June 29, 1937) is a businessman, philanthropist and avid collector of art and cars.[1] A graduate of Tulane University with a Master of Architecture degree, Shane, along with H.M. “Tim” Favrot, co-founded Favrot & Shane Co. With nearly 9,500 apartment units, they built the company into one of the largest owners of multi-family residential real estate] apartments in Louisiana.[2] Mr. Shane was one of the driving forces behind the creation of the Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission and Greater New Orleans, Inc. Mr. Shane has been the recipient of many awards, among them the Business Hall of Fame 2002 Junior Achievement Award and National Apartment Association 1989 Hall of Fame Award.[3] He has an extensive car collection that includes over 160 antique cars and is also an avid antique toy collector. Although not open to the public, his Cars of Yesteryears Museum is donated to numerous organizations for their fundraiser events.[4] The Shanes' also have an art collection, that includes a number of works by the artists George Rodrigue, Hunt Slonem, James Michalopoulos, Clementine Hunter, Robert Rucker and Al Federico. The Shanes have also donated artworks to the Parish of Jefferson, JEDCO, JPAS, Ogden Museum, and numerous other museums and colleges.[5]
