Herald.Wales is a Welsh news website that covers current affairs, politics, sport and features from an independent Welsh perspective. It was started on 26 February 2021 following two years of development in partnership with Huw Marshall of New Media Wales.[1]

Whilst 1 March 2021, Saint David's Day, had long been earmarked as the date to launch the news service, Herald.Wales' launch was brought forward as a response to New Media Wales' last-minute decision to partner instead with Newsquest, who launched their own website and newspaper The National on that date instead.[2]

Herald.Wales was envisioned as a totally free, totally independent and totally Welsh-owned news service that, from before the launch, came out in support of YesCymru and Welsh independence.[3]

Before the launch, Political Editor Jon Coles said: "Herald.Wales starts from the position that Wales should have the choice over whether to be an independent country. That doesn't mean we're an uncritical voice in support of independence. We will report each side of the debate so our readers can form their own opinions on Wales' future. However, our sentiment will favour an independent Wales."[4]

When the website launched, it carried welcome messages from various political figures from Wales, including Welsh Conservatives leader Andrew RT Davies.[5]

Run by managing editor Thomas Sinclair and staffed by a team of 30 journalists, designers and salespeople, Herald.Wales also produces a Pembrokeshire newspaper that has 18,700 readers per week called The Pembrokeshire Herald.[6]
