Herbert Scheibenreif (born October 22, 1952 in Neunkirchen) is an Austrian musician, music teacher, music producer, music manager and author.

Education[edit]

From 1971 to 1979, Scheibenreif studied Romance languages, mathematics, philosophy and pedagogics at the University of Vienna, where he received his doctorate[1] in Romance languages in 1979. In 1994/95 he completed a study year at the Russian Gnesin Academy of Music[2] in Moscow (class of Prof. Friedrich Lips).

Live and work[edit]

In 1976 he won first prize at the Austrian competition for accordion soloists[3] in Neunkirchen and was able to represent his country three times from 1975 to 1977 at international competitions in Helsinki, Washington[4] and Eindhoven. He was regularly active as a delegate and juror for Austria at international events. In 1985 he was elected in Paris as a propaganda officer on the Executive Committee of the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes CIA, from 2006 to 2018 he served as CIA Vice President.[5] Since 2009 he has also been 1st Vice President of the Austrian Harmonica Association.[6] Scheibenreif represented the CIA at the European Music Council EMC[7] in Vienna (2010), Istanbul (2012), Oslo (2018) and at the International Music Council IMC[8] in Paris (2019).

Scheibenreif has organized concerts with numerous accordionists. In 1977, he started cooperation with Russian bayanist Friedrich Lips.[9] He translated the Lips books "The Art of Bayan Playing",[10] "The Art of Arranging Classical Music for Accordion"[11] and "It seems like yesterday” from Russian to German and English; countless professional articles and reports; organization of seminars with Lips in different Austrian cities; publication and distribution of 30 Lips CDs,[12] Podcast "Everything Accordion" with Friedrich Lips[13] part 1 + 2; Pigini video clips.[14]

As a result of his work with contemporary composers, Scheibenreif premiered works by Leopold Brauneiss[15] (Dodecaharmonia for solo accordion) and Wolfgang Nening.[16] (Six Little Pieces for accordion and violin, Andante con variazioni for accordion and cello).

Scheibenreif is a correspondent for media such as Acco Kurier, Bulletin of IAS, Harmonika-Forum,[17] Harmonika International,[18] akkordeon magazin,[19] Accordions Worldwide,[20] Modern Accordion Perspectives,[21] Accordion Stars Illustrated Magazines.[22]
