He served as Deputy of the Republic for La Laja, Nacimiento and Mulchén for two consecutive legislative periods between 1897 and 1903.[1]

Biography

Brito was born in Los Ángeles on 1 December 1851, the son of Manuel Brito and Felipa Arriagada. He studied at the Liceo de Concepción and performed military service between 1871 and 1883, serving in the 4th Civic Cavalry Squadron of La Laja and the Civic Battalion of Los Ángeles. He married María Félix Novoa Brito on 31 July 1883, with whom he had eleven children.[1]

He worked as a mathematics teacher at the Liceo de Los Ángeles and temporarily held several public positions, including principal postal administrator, administrator of the Estanco and lieutenant minister of La Laja. He was also an agent of Banco Santiago in Los Ángeles. Brito was involved in agriculture, owning the San Antonio estate near Los Ángeles as well as other properties in the surrounding area.[1]

Political career

A member of the Conservative Party, Brito served as president of the party's local board in Los Ángeles. Before entering Congress, he served as a municipal councillor and mayor of Los Ángeles between 1888 and 1894. During his municipal career, he promoted local infrastructure projects, including the introduction of electric street lighting.[1]

Brito was elected Deputy for La Laja, Nacimiento and Mulchén for the 1897–1900 legislative period and was reelected for the 1900–1903 term. During his parliamentary service, he participated in the Elections and Petitions Committee, the Government Committee and the Ecclesiastical Affairs Committee. He also promoted infrastructure projects for his constituency, including potable water works and the extension of the Santa Fé railway branch through Los Ángeles to Antuco.[1]

In 1924, Brito was appointed Intendant of Bío-Bío, and in 1927 he became a member of the Los Ángeles Neighbors' Board. He died in Los Ángeles on 25 October 1931.[1]
