Herman Paul (born May 12, 1978) is a Dutch historian and theorist specializing in historiography, historical theory, and the philosophy of history. He is a Professor of the History of the Humanities at Leiden University and serves as the academic director of the Leiden University Institute for History. Paul earned his Ph.D. in historiography from the University of Groningen in 2006, studying under Frank Ankersmit. He has held visiting positions at Princeton University, Leuven, Mainz, and Berlin.
