From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Hermann Pretorius (born 17 July 1991) is a South African civil rights activist and policy advocate. He is the Head of Campaigns at the South African Institute of Race Relations, a research and policy organisation in South Africa. Hermann is a co-host of the Afrikaans weekly political podcast Podlitiek.[1]

Early life and education

Pretorius grew up in Pretoria where he matriculated in 2009 from the Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool. He obtained his LLB degree from the University of Pretoria (UP). Pretorius participated in various debating and moot court competitions as a student.[2] Pretorius is also a trained opera singer.[3][4]

Controversy

In 2019 Pretorius wrote a column in which he suggested that Alan Winde should take over the leadership of a South African political party, Democratic Alliance, stating that “the seed of the DA’s recovery has been planted by a white man in the Western Cape”.[5] The article by Pretorius received mixed feedback.[6] [7]

In late 2019, Pretorius took aim at Herman Mashaba, the former mayor of the City of Johannesburg, for Mashaba's apparent racist internal communication, which showed him scolding a member of the Democratic Alliance's caucus.[8]

Campaigns

Pretorius has been a spokesperson for his organisations on various matters, including their opposition to the National Health Insurance, prescribed assets, as well as expropriation without compensation.[9][10][11] Pretorius has appeared on South African national and international news networks as a commentator, frequently discussing current affairs and politics.
