Missing taxonomy template (fix): Hetorquevirus

Hetorquevirus is a genus of viruses in the family Anelloviridae whose members have been identified in humans.[1]

Taxonomy

The genus contains the following species:[1]

  • Hetorquevirus hominid 2
  • Hetorquevirus hominid 3
  • Hetorquevirus hominid 4
  • Hetorquevirus hominid 5
  • Hetorquevirus hominid 6

Hetorquevirus hominid 2 was established from the former species Torque teno hominid virus 2 in ICTV proposal 2020.015D.R.Anelloviridae_17ngen_80nsp.[2]

Additional species were added in ICTV proposal 2023.005D.Anelloviride_4ngen_16nsp.[3]

History

The first sequence associated with the genus was identified in 2018 as Vzttmv5 during a metagenomic study of respiratory tract infections in Vietnam.[4]

The strain, deposited in GenBank under accession MK212032, was described as highly divergent from previously recognized anellovirus genera and was later classified as Hetorquevirus hominid 2.[4]

Etymology

The genus name combines He, a letter of the Phoenician alphabet, with torquevirus, derived from the Latin torque ("necklace").[2]
