Heupink & Bloemen Tabak BV is a private manufacturer of tobacco products for wholesale and retail trade.[1][2] Its origins date back to the 1800's, though the company was officially founded in 2001 in Ootmarsum, the Netherlands, resulting from the merger of tobacco manufactuers Bloeman and Heupink & Reiners.[3]

History[edit]

Heupink & Bloemen began working in the tobacco production industry 175 years ago, in 1839, in a small building in the private residence of Mr. Bloemen, who used the space as a factory to produce cigars. In 1913, the Heupink & Reinders families founded their own tobacco factory, which operated in competition with Bloemen. In the 20th century, the two companies built new factories neighbouring one another, over time their collaborations led to their merger in 2001.[3]

Products[edit]

Heupink & Bloemen Tabak produces tobacco products including private label and own brand tobacco. The tobacco used with Heupink & Bloemen products is sourced from plantations across the globe including leaves from North and South America, Asia, Europe and Africa. The process of manufacturing the tobacco, from leaf to smoking, is managed within their factory in Ootmarsum.[3][4]

Heupink & Bloemen exports worldwide but has a primary focus on the European market.[5] It is the only independent tobacco manufacturing family business from the Netherlands, producing various brands of cigarettes, cigars, pipe and roll-up tobacco, including Black Devil, Pink Elephant (now discontinued)[6], Black Devil Pink, Red House, Texas, Apache, Look Out and Private Labels[3][4][7] Over 65% of production is exported to the international markets of Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Argentina, the Caribbean, South Korea, Japan, Poland, and Sweden.[4]
