Hidden (Cast novel)
Hidden is a young adult vampire-themed horror novel by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast that was released in 2012. It was published St. Martin's Press and is the tenth book in the 12-book House of Night series.
Plot[edit]
Wanting to regain control of Aurox, Neferet sacrifices Shadowfax, Dragon's cat, but ends up starting a fire which then destroys the stables. Travis is rushed to hospital with burns and smoke inhalation after Lenobia drags him out of the stables. Then in front of everyone, Lenobia kisses Travis. Nicole, a red fledgling from Dallas's group also helps get the horses out. Thanatos returns with Zoey and her circle as well as Darius, Stark and Rephaim and Shaylin remarks that Nicole's aura is changing, that Nicole is becoming better. Aurox meets Grandma Redbird and she says she forgives him for the part he had in Linda's death. Neferet gives a press conference with the mayor, Charles LaFont and tells the public how she has broken away from the House of Night because she doesn't agree with them and then she gossips about the new red vampyres and uses Stark as an example. When Aphrodite tries to tell her parents about how insane Neferet is, her mother just gives the name of a psychologist. Thanatos encourages Aphrodite, Zoey and Shaylin to make good use of thir gifts and Zoey decides to look at the oak tree at the East Wall using the Seer Stone. Here she sees wisps of rancid darkness and they just nearly attack her but Stark, feeling her fear, comes to check on what's wrong. The two walk along to the stables and Zoey's Seer Stone heats up when she sees Travis, getting out of a car. After looking through it, Zoey sees a young Lenobia with a man she doesn't recognise. This man happens to be Martin, returned to Lenobia after more than 200 years.
The High Council has shunned Neferet and Erebus makes an appearance to Kalona.
Due to Neferet spreading rumours and gossip about the Tulsa House of Night, Thanatos arranges to have Adam Paluka from Fox News come along and do a few interviews. Damien and Adam hit it off and end up organising a date. They also plan to have an open house with a Street Cats stall as well as giving humans the opportunity to have a job at the House of Night. The fighting between the Twins is still going and Erin asks to stay at the House of Night instead of in the depot tunnels. Zoey is about to say no when Aphrodite and Shaylin tell her to say yes since Shaylin noticed different colours in Erin's aura. Later Shaunee catches Erin making out with Dallas. Grandma Redbird is also kidnapped by Neferet and kept in a cage made of Darkness. Aurox finds out and tries to tell Zoey but Stark fights Aurox. When Aurox finally tells Zoey what has happened to Grandma Redbird, the group send Kalona to try and get her back. The mission ends badly when Neferet's wisps of Darkness attack Kalona. A second attempt is made to get Aurox to save Grandma Redbird while everyone else casts a circle. The second attempt is successful and everyone discovers that Aurox is Heath more or less.[1][2]
