Hide & Dance!,[lower-alpha 1] originally released on mobile as Behind You!!,[lower-alpha 2] is a 2016 rhythm game developed and published by hap inc. for iOS and Android devices on March 18, 2016. The game was later ported to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 by Kemco in late 2020. Designed and programmed by the founder of hap inc., Yuusaku Ishimoto, the game sees the player playing as a girl who attempts to dance in her room without being caught by her mother.

Development and release

Hide & Dance! was developed by the independent Japanese video game developer hap inc., consisting solely of its founder, the Tokyo-based Yuusaku Ishimoto.[1]

The game's Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 ports were first unveiled by its porter, Kemco, at the 2020 Tokyo Game Show.[2] The PlayStation 4 port released on September 30, 2020, in Japan,[3] with a worldwide release following on November 19.[4] The Nintendo Switch port released worldwide on October 1.[5]

Reception

Lua error in Module:Video_game_wikidata at line 361: attempt to index field 'wikibase' (a nil value). Hide & Dance! was generally praised by critics, being rated 4/5 by GameZebo[6] and 7/10 by Pure Nintendo.[7]

Maria Alexander of GameZebo praised the game's controls as "intuitive." Alexander thought that the "hiding" mechanic was "confusing" at first, but stated that it soon became "second nature."[6] Pure Nintendo's Trevor Gould, who thought that Hide & Dance! was "short on gameplay", but "big on smiles", stated that it's "hard not to crack a smile while watching."[7]

The soundtrack was received positively by critics, with Pure Nintendo calling them "hooky", albeit short;[7] GameZebo noted the songs' shortness as one of the worst aspects of the game, while still described them as "sweet."[6]
