Higaida Otsuka Kofun
Higaida Otsuka Kofun is a Kofun found on the premises of Makimuku ruins[1].[2] It is near Makimuku Station.[3]
It is 96m long and points west[4].
Higaida Otsuka Kofun is located in Makimuku ruins and from the Kofun period which spans from the 3rd to the 6th century. To gain a more precise understanding of its age, a study was conducted utilizing radiocarbon dating by accelerator mass spectrometry on samples like wood, seeds, and carbonaceous matter from pottery found at the site.[5]
Upon calibration with dendrochronology-based radiocarbon dates from native Japanese trees, the study aimed to derive the Kofun's absolute date. Analysis indicated a temporal relationship between the remains and the construction era of the Kofun.[5]
The findings specifically for the Higaida Otsuka Kofun suggest that its construction and initial usage period likely fall between AD 240 to 260. This refined dating offers valuable insights into the early phases of the Kofun period in Japanese archaeology.[5]
