Hillcrest Primary School is a public co-educational primary school in Hillcrest, near Durban, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
History
The school was first opened in 1953 with thirty-two pupils on the roll and consisted of two classrooms. In 1956, it was moved to its present site, and the school was housed in the former St. Margaret’s School, the building being an old wood and iron house.
Today, Hillcrest Primary has grown to 1124 pupils and continues to operate as a Christian Ethos school.
In keeping with its Christian ethos, school assemblies are held regularly, when pupils and staff get together for a time of worship. Special class assemblies give every pupil the opportunity to participate.
The school motto, Be True, encourages each member of the school to be true to God and themselves.
The Torch on the badge symbolizes the light of learning. Each school year opens with a candle-lighting ceremony.
Loyalty and team spirit are encouraged through a comprehensive house point system and inter-class competitions. There are four houses:
- Crane - Honour before Honours
- Eagle - Mount up on Wings
- Hawk - Fly high
- Ibis - Seize the Day
