Early life[edit]

He studied in the United States of America at an early age and returned to the country. Himayat Ali Mirza was present when the Nizam of Hyderabad jewels were handed over to the Government of India in 1995[3] in Mumbai for $13 million with his uncle Prince Muffakham Jah and other Nizam Trust officials.[4]

Achievements[edit]

Himayat Ali Mirza is a working partner and has chosen skill for this great royal project, Fern Heights, one of its kind in Hyderabad city.[5]

Recently, the praising statements for the Nizam VII from RSS executive member has put several political analysts in a dilemma. As per Himayat Ali Mirza, this could be a result of his conversation with the Prime Minister & notices sent to Election Commission of India for dragging the name of his great-grand father, last ruler of Hyderabad, India, during elections. Himayat Ali Mirza has happily welcomed this change.[6]

List of requests[edit]

On 24 April 2020, Himayat Ali Mirza said that he approached the court in the United Kingdom to access the confidential settlement agreement between the Indian government, Nizam's two grandsons, and the administrator of the Nizam estate.[7][8][9][10]

Himayat Ali Mirza, the great-grandson of the Nizam, claims INR 121 crore out of INR 332 crore (€35 million) in the Hyderabad Fund Case in the United Kingdom.

Himayat Ali Mirza asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to relocate the jewels to Hyderabad and set up a museum.[11][12][13]

Himayat Ali Mirza also asked Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to convert the hundreds of acres of his family's lands, seized under the Urban Land Ceiling Act 1976, into green spaces.[1][14]

Himayat Ali Mirza has joined the save Osmania General Hospital campaign, as he believes that minor renovations could improve the Osmania Hospital building.[15]

The Great-grandson of erstwhile Nizam VII, Mir Osman Ali Khan, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to restrain BJP leaders from dragging the name of the last ruler of the princely state of Hyderabad in the mud during elections. Ahead of the Huzurabad bypoll on October 30, Nizam's great-grandson Himayat Ali Mirza has also written to the Election Commission to issue instructions to political parties against the alleged misuse of the Nizam's name for political and electoral benefits. He said he would approach the high court as the Nizam's name is "maligned during the election" in Telangana for votes. He found fault with some leaders for using Nizam as a generic term for villian-hood to denigrate political opponents.[16]

Advocacy Work[edit]

Himayat Ali Mirza filed a case in the Bombay High Court claiming his share in various properties of his great grandfather (H.E.H), the Nizam of Hyderabad.[17]

Mumbai High Court passed an order confirming Himayat Ali Mirza's share of 36% in the properties relating to the Royal family of the Nizam VII of Hyderabad.[18]

The Diamond necklace of the Nizam Of Hyderabad turned out to be the most precious piece of jewelry in the world. The Nizam gifted the necklace to Queen Elizabeth II in 1947 after engaging with Prince Philip. According to the experts, the cost of this magnificent necklace is currently more than 6 billion 59 crore rupees. Himayat Ali Mirza, the great-grandson of H.E.H the Nizam VII, has demanded that the Nizam's treasure should be removed from the vaults of the Reserve Bank Of India and kept in a museum in Hyderabad.[19]

Himayat Ali Mirza is the grandson of His highness (H.H) Walashan Prince Moazzam Jah Bahadur, was the second son and successor apparent of (H.E.H) The Nizam VII, Mir Osman Ali Khan. He is the step-grandson of Princess Niloufer, who founded the Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad.

Born in India, Mirza studied in the United States and came back to look after the family business and heritage. Mirza is active in the real estate industry and has projects in India, Canada, UK, USA, Turkey, and Malaysia. With this, he has taken the responsibility to voice against the negligence and irregularities concerning to the late Nizam's legacy. Himayat is liasoning with various state governments on Nizam's lands. With this, he has taken the responsibility to voice against the negligence and irregularities concerning the late Nizam's legacy.

Himayat is already working with Telangana Government to convert the lands acquired by the Indian state into public parks so that the state's people can have access to them and enjoy the late Nizam's legacy. With this, he is also in touch with the Tamil Nadu government and has inquired about illegal encroachments of the land by external parties who have no claim on the land. Mirza has opened several court cases.

More recently, Himayat Ali Mirza also reached out to the Maharashtra Government related to the Nizams properties in Malabar Hills, Mahabaleshwar and the Aurangabad with a case opened in Mumbai High court. His correspondence with the Mumbai Chief Minister also talks about missing antiques and other movable items.

Besides his work with the governments to maintain late Nizam's properties, Himayat has also started his own foundation. He already chairs a charitable network that is registered in the name if his grandfather (H.H) His highness Prince Moazzam Jah (PMJ) Foundation. Through these NGo's, he has also started to provide support (financial and food supplies) to patients and their families near the Niloufer Hospital.

Mirza was also one of the key people involved in handing over the jewels to the government of India along with his uncle Prince Muffakham Jah in the year 1995. The Government of India locked the jewels in Reserve Bank of India vaults and they have been on display only twice since then. Himayat has appealed that the jewels should be brought back to Hyderabad to be displayed as a permanent collection in a museum. Mirza has prepared a full-fledged plan for the jewels estimated to be worth approximately INR 99,000 crores or more. The museum and the infrastructure around it would generate revenue from people visiting the museum. Besides, there will be generation of employment, helping the people in Hyderabad. He imagines the area as Nizam's city, becoming an iconic landmark in Hyderabad.[4]

Himayat Ali Mirza, the Nizam’s great-grandson, had sent the third letter dated 5th March 2022 to the Election commission of India (ECI) for issuing orders immediately to all political parties to not use the Nizam’s name in the upcoming elections in 2023. Nizam had no relations with any political party, and therefore, no one should drag his name into political matters, rallies, and speeches.[20] Mirza has taken a strong stand against these activities. Mirza also stated that if the Election Commission of India fails to stop such activities, he will be taking legal action against the ECI and filing a case in the Honorable Supreme court of India for not taking action appropriately.[21][22]

Media Articles[edit]

Rumi Topi defies times, as it is still much popular in Hyderabad. Himayat Ali Mirza, the great-grandson of the Nizam, said Mir Osman Ali khan never wore expensive clothes but wore the Rumi topi perhaps to cover up his short physical stature. "The Nizam advised his son, prince Moazzam Jah, who is my grandfather, to always wear the Rumi topi, and he did do as it is a symbol of respect," he said.[23]

King of Hyderabad cuisine's Biryani.

Himayat Ali Mirza, the great-grandson of Osman Ali Khan, said Hyderabad biryani evolved, absorbing Deccani or Telangana flavors into it. "This evolution took place in the mega royal kitchens of Asaf Jah's," he said, adding the biryani continues to be the favorite dish of the most Hyderabadis, the growing popularity of Mandi notwithstanding.[24]

Since 10th April 2017, Himayat has been in touch with the Central and State Government, urging to relocate the Nizam jewels to the city which are currently owned by the Reserve Bank of In India (RBI) and should be preserved in a special museum. Mirza proposed the establishment of a 500-acre museum in areas like Rajendranagar, Moinabad, and Pahadisharif, anticipating tourism development and job creation. While consulting Union Minister Kishan Reddy about the jewels' security, he expressed disappointment in Chief Minister KCR's lack of response, causing delays. Mirza urged the Chief Minister to provide assurance regarding the safety of the jewels to expedite their arrival in Hyderabad.[25] After getting no response and action from the government’s on the issue, on 9th June 2021, Himayat Ali Mirza requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to relocate the Nizam’s jewels to Hyderabad. It was Himayat’s first attempt to reach the Prime minister directly to request relocating the Nizam jewels back to Hyderabad.[26][27]

Finally, On 16th February 2022, the Union Minister for Tourism stated in the media that the central government has no problem sending the gems back to Hyderabad but mandated the presence of a museum with proper security arrangements. Recently, Mirza has again requested the Chief Minister of Telangana K. Chandrashekar Rao to build a museum with adequate security measures to bring Nizam’s jewels back to the state. He also suggested that the Nizam’s land can be used for museum building as more than 2000 acres of Nizam’s lands are of no use from the past 60 years which were acquired under the Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Act, 1976.[26][27]

In an interview with News Indian Express, Himayat Ali Mirza being a socialist was very saddened that the official residence of the last ruler of Hyderabad State, the Nizam 7th, King Kothi Palace, is of no use to the public now. Himayat protested that it should not be sold away. Instead, it should be converted into a beautiful hospital, free of cost for the betterment of society & poor people, named after the Nizam, the last ruler of Hyderabad state.

Himayat Ali Mirza being a socialist, has always protested against the state governments and central governments on different issues on various occasions. Previously, Himayat protested for saving the Heritage of Osmania general hospital and requested the same to the Chief Minister  of Telangana. Later, the case went to the High Court, and the High Court gave orders not to make any changes to the Heritage structure of Osmania Hospital. Himayat, great-grandson of the Nizam 7th, welcomed the HC verdict, which stated that the Government should not make any changes in the scripture of the Osmania General Hospital so that the heritage monument of the Late Nizam 7th could be conserved.[28]

According to historical documents, the Nizam forbade the sacrifice of cows during Bakr-id before outlawing cow slaughter in 1922. He backed a public security committee established in the wake of Hyderabad's first-ever racial unrest in 1938. As many as 659 industries were located in Hyderabad when it was a major industrial state in 1944. The great-grandson of Nizam VII, Himayat Ali Mirza, worries that "despite the fact that his great-grandfather forbade cow slaughter, restored the Ajanta and Ellora paintings, and made yearly donations to a number of temples, he is being singled out in the year of the prohibition on cow slaughter. These politicians are ignorant of Hyderabad's real past, he claims.[29]

Social Welfare[edit]

Lately, Himayat Ali Mirza has joined the movement to save the twin reservoirs ‘Osmansagar-Himayatsagar’. According to Himayat, these reservoirs were built by his great-grandfather Nizam VII, on the advice of Sir Visvesvaraya for protecting the lives of lakhs of people from flash floods at that time. The lakes have been an iconic landmark of Hyderabad and a lifeline for the village people and residents of the old city.[30] Himayat has also urged the Telangana chief minister to not to Scrap the GO 111 and pass new legislation guaranteeing the protection of the twin lakes and other public open spaces.[31] To increase the Green area and for improving the quality of air in Hyderabad, Mirza has requested the CM of Telangana to convert more than 2000 acres of Nizam’s land into green parks which were seized under the Urban Land ceiling act and are still unused from the last 70 years.[32][33][34]

Himayat Ali Mirza is a socialist and, till now has raised his voice against the government several times on different occasions, like saving Osmania hospital, getting back nizam’s jewels, building a museum for the gems, generating employment for unemployed people, parks, pollution-free city and for protecting the reservoirs of Hyderabad.[32][33][34][35]

King Kothi Palace was the official residence of the Nizam VII and is a grand heritage monument of the last ruler of Hyderabad, one of its kind in the world, but now it's being sold off. Himayat said that he would be filing a writ petition in the High court to stop the razing of the King Kothi palace and suggested converting it into a hospital named after the Nizam. He also questioned why the government is quiet. The palace is a heritage structure and needs to be safe guarded. Hyderabad, India is known for their heritage structures and historical sites. I will not let our country's values go down. I will fight to protect all the great heritage and save our heritage structures from vanishing away.[36] Himayat has also approached the courts for seeking a stay order for all the construction activities on the premises of the heritage.[37]

My grandfather, His Highness prince Moazzam Jah, and my step-grandmother, princess Nilofler, often visited the palace to meet the last ruler. My step-grandmother, princess Nilofler, loved the palace structure. So many political leaders like Shri Sardar Patel Ji, Shri Nehru Ji, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji, Shri Rajendra Prasad Ji, Shri Abul Kalam Azad Ji, Shrimati Indra Gandhi Ji, several chief ministers, governors and other VIPs. Also, foreign delegates, including the British royal family and government officials of the United Kingdom, the king of Saudi Arabia and other country's political leaders, visited the palace to meet the Nizam 7th. Foreign tourists have always visited Hyderabad due to the Nizams and royal history and heritage. Being a socialist, he suggested converting the palace into a hospital free of cost for people of Hyderabad instead of claiming his share. Himayat He also suggested a Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) investigation of multiple claims to the palace.[36]

Himayat continues his protest against the Government for not scrapping GO 111 as the reservoirs "Himayatsagar and Osmansagar" still act as lifelines for lakhs of village people and preserve the greenery around the area.[31][38] As per the environmentalists, the scrapping of GO 111 could result in flash floods during the monsoon. In the previous years, 2020 and 2021, due to the excessive rainfalls, the old city, as well as the new city, faced flash floods which indicates that the city is not in a position to hold excess rainfall this year as per the senior geophysicist and professor emeritus, Osmania University. Himayat also said, “Even a tiny summer rain might cause heavy flooding since GO 111 has been scrapped, which led to increasing construction activities and consequent flooding".[39]

Himayat launched a charitable organization named HM FOUNDATION in February, 2022.[35] Himayat started the foundation after seeing the people's suffering during the pandemic. People can send requests to help someone they know or for themselves, but the final verdict lies in the hands of foundation members. Foundation will only supply grants only if the members have endorsed the request. It will aid people by paying their medical bills and providing them with their necessities instead of sending money directly to them.[40] Also, the committee members will verify the authenticity of the individuals and their need to avoid fraud and help people in need. Himayat always finds ways for helping people and working towards the upliftment of the society and considers himself to be fortunate for being able to help others.[41][42][43]

Mirza is affiliated with several worldwide humanitarian organizations, including UNICEF, and has spoken with the Prime minister of India about his worries over economic growth. He is also modest and generous with everyone. His new endeavors have demonstrated healthy for society. The Covid-19 pandemic suffused society with hopelessness, leaving millions jobless and destitute. The effect of Covid was unfriendly to such an extent that individuals couldn't bear the cost of their basics. Seeing individuals endure during the pandemic and burning to help them, his anxiety for lightening their pain and advancing their general prosperity prompted the HM Foundation (HMF), which he as of late sent off in February 2022.[40] A magnanimous association assists individuals who with requiring clinical assistance and credible support.[42]

Mirza is a communist who generally ponders the improvement of society and is taking up a few significant issues with the state and focal legislatures. Himayat has forever been a functioning lover in helping individuals by and by or through different associations to improve society. He has vowed not to acknowledge any assistance or gifts for his association HM Foundation (HMF). As of late, Himayat has stood firm for honorable goals like contamination, water issues, saving water bodies, and environmental change and is in correspondence with the government authority to lay out additional clinics for poor people.[43] It is fair to describe Himayat as a social change agent given that he works primarily to bring about change and sincerely believes in doing good deeds through his non-profit, charitable organization.[35]

Recently, Himayat Ali Mirza requested the Hon'ble Prime minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and honorable home minister Shri Amit shah Ji, to please take immediate action for getting back the Nizam’s two precious gold coins that are one of its kind in the world. He told that these gold coins belonged to his great grandfather and are missing for 3 decades or more. He tried multiple times in the past but unfortunately, nothing happened. According to Mirza, these coins are highly precious and are more ancient than the Nizams jewellery which dates back to an ancient era with Arabic inscription, these coins are invaluable as they are extremely rare antiques.

Himayat also thanked all the activists and the media who scouted this issue and are shedding light on it for general awareness. Further, he also requested a surge for the concerned CBI team to investigate the two ancient gold coins because as per the rumors the coins have been mortgaged to the Swiss bank. He urged the central government to look into the matter as soon as possible for the betterment of the public now and the youth of the country.[44]

Recently, Himayat Ali Mirza has demanded that the United Kingdom government promptly returns the Kohinoor diamond, emphasizing the historical friendship between the British royals and their great grandfather, the nizam. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to exert pressure on the UK government for the diamond's return, considering it a significant step toward building a new relationship with the Indian-origin Prime Minister of the UK. He also highlighted the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries and if the UK government does not cooperate, he will pursue a legal action.[45][46] Himayat has already written a letter to the UK Prime Minister appealing for understanding and cooperation and emphasizes that the Kohinoor diamond is not merely an expensive jewel but holds immense cultural and historical value for India, expressing hope that the British government will acknowledge these values and take steps to return the precious stone.[47][48]

Himayat is planning to approach the High Court because he disagrees with the government's choice to tear down the old and important heritage building at Osmania General Hospital. [49]He's also questioning if the Chief Minister got permission to destroy the historic Kothi Asafia palace Building in Alwal for building Tims Hospital. Mirza thinks it's the government's job to keep Osmania Hospital's building safe since it's a heritage building and a landmark in Hyderabad.[50] If Falak Numa palace can be restored and taken over by the Taj group, then why can’t the government restore the Osmania Hospital’s building, he further questions the government.[51][52]

Himayat Ali Mirza persistently dedicates his endeavors towards enhancing society, advocating for the safeguarding of heritage, and revitalizing cultural riches. He truly embodies the core principles of heritage conservation, empowerment, and progressive transformation.[53][54] His contributions extend to assisting those in need, partnering with international organizations such as UNICEF and the Red Cross. His commitment is notably demonstrated through his advocacy for the preservation of Osmania General Hospital.[55][56]

Mirza's engagement with government bodies underscores his dedication to recovering historical artifacts and safeguarding cultural treasures. His passionate advocacy for the preservation of Osmania General Hospital serves as a testament to his unwavering commitment to this cause. Moreover, his resolute stance against the increasing pollution levels reflects his deep concern for environmental health and sustainability.[57]

Himayat Ali Mirza has called upon the Election Commission to issue directives to political parties, urging them to refrain from exploiting the legacy of Mir Osman Ali Khan for political and electoral gains. He has raised concerns about the portrayal of the Nizam as a traitor and pointed out that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, an icon whose ideology closely aligns with the BJP, appointed Nizam as the first Governor General of India. Himayat has questioned the logic behind labeling the Nizam as a traitor or anti-Indian figure under these circumstances.

Notably, Himayat had previously approached the honorable Prime Minister with similar concerns, but he believes that no strict action has been taken against politicians engaging in such actions. Consequently, he has decided to take legal action by pursuing a defamation case worth 10 crores in the esteemed Supreme Court of India if any further disrespect is shown towards the name of Nizam.[58]

In recent developments, Himayat, a prominent figure, has strongly urged the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to withhold clearance for the Telugu movie 'Razakar.'[59] The film's trailer was unveiled on September 17, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the integration of the princely state of Hyderabad into India. Himayat expresses skepticism about the accuracy of the events depicted in the movie, echoing concerns raised by Minister K T Rama Rao and other citizens. The central issue revolves around the alleged promotion of hatred and communal tensions through the film's portrayal of historical events, specifically the depiction of atrocities against Hindus during the Nizam's rule and forceful conversions to Islam.[60]

Mirza, the individual urging the CBFC's intervention, contends that the film's release on Telangana Liberation Day has sparked a political debate. This debate encompasses questions of historical accuracy, communal harmony, and censorship. He accuses certain political parties of distorting facts for their propaganda purposes and exploiting historical events to advance their political agendas. In Mirza's view, this manipulation of truth in the film risks sowing seeds of communal discord among various communities.[61]

In response to the trailer's release on September 17, Minister KT Rama Rao has openly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He accuses the BJP of allegedly inciting communal violence and polarizing society for political gain. The minister expresses an intent to address the matter with both the censor board and the Telangana police to ensure the maintenance of law and order in Telangana.[60][62]

Adding to the political and communal discourse surrounding the film, MLC K Kavitha[63], the daughter of KCR (Chief Minister of Telangana), has also criticized the BJP's involvement in the release of the 'Razakar' trailer. This further intensifies the ongoing debate and highlights the complex interplay between politics, historical representation, and communal sentiments in the context of the film's release.

Himayat Ali Mirza has taken legal action by approaching the honorable High Court of Hyderabad, India. He filed two cases against the government for attempting to build a hospital on his property illegally. The High Court, in response, has issued a stay order on the construction and ruled in favor of Himayat Ali Mirza.[62]

While the establishment of hospitals is a crucial step for the development and welfare of the country and its people, illegally seizing someone's property for such purposes, whether it be for a hospital, mosque, temple, or church, is considered a crime against humanity. The government, in this case, has contracted a private sector entity for the construction, leading to significant financial gains. Unfortunately, the government appears to be negligent in verifying the rightful ownership of the properties involved.[61]

This is not the first instance of Himayat's family properties being unlawfully occupied by the government. In previous incidents, valuable properties were seized, leading to the government having to compensate for the unjust acquisitions. Notably, the Kothi Asifia Palace, characterized by its rich English style, also known as the Alwal Palace property, was one such valuable possession unlawfully taken by the government.[61][62]

Himayat’s holistic approach towards resolving societal challenges spans across education, healthcare, and socio-economic development. He has been actively involved in the preservation of cultural heritage, advocating for relocating Nizam jewels to Hyderabad and the establishment of a museum that generates employment opportunities. Himayat has also proposed the conversion of over 2000 acres of land into green parks, aiming to promote environmental sustainability and provide recreational space for residents. Himayat is deeply involved in community-driven projects, striving for sustainable solutions and uplifting marginalized sections of society. He also seeks the return of the Kohinoor diamond to India. Himayat advocates for responsible filmmaking, urging creators to avoid promoting hatred in their films and stressing the significance of verifying realities. His comprehensive efforts in cultural preservation, environmental conservation, and philanthropy underscore his compassionate leadership in effecting positive societal change. His unwavering commitment demonstrates the transformative power of empathy and vision in creating a better world.[64][65]

Himayat, a prominent figure advocating for inclusive governance, highlights the importance of selecting leaders who prioritize India's progress regardless of religious backgrounds. In the midst of economic challenges and global market fluctuations, Himayat stresses the need for concrete plans for economic revitalization and national growth. As reported by Outlook India, Himayat emphasizes the significance of India's recent achievements on the global stage and calls upon citizens to rally behind leaders committed to the nation's well-being. His message resonates with the pride Indians feel in their identity and the responsibility they bear in shaping the country's destiny.

In his statement, Himayat urges voters to exercise their democratic right wisely by choosing candidates dedicated to improving the lives of all Indians, irrespective of caste, creed, or religion. Together, Himayat emphasizes the importance of selecting leaders who prioritize people's needs, support the vulnerable, strengthen international relations, and drive India to new heights of success. His message encapsulates the idea that voting isn't just marking a ballot but declaring aspirations for a brighter future.[65]
