Dr. Hina Saeed Baig is a Senior Research Scientist at the National Institute of Oceanography in Karachi, Pakistan. Her work focuses on microscopic and macroscopic marine plants as well as microorganisms. She is known for her leadership in Pakistani oceanography as the only female Senior Research Scientist at the country's National Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Science & Technology, Biological Oceanography division.[1]
Early life and education
Baig earned her M.Phil. in Marine biology (2000) and then her PhD in Marine science (2004) from the Institute of Marine Science, University of Karachi, Pakistan. Her PhD research focused on sargassum and dinoflagellates in Pakistan's coastal waters.[2]

Baig has worked at the National Institute of Oceanography of Pakistan.[1]
Leadership
Baig represents Pakistan on the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the UNESCO Harmful Algal Bloom Programme (IOC-HAB).[3] Baig is also a representative member of the NIO on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (Mangroves for the Future Programme).[4] She is a founding member of both the Pakistan Whale and Dolphin Society and the Pakistan Aquaculture and Fisheries Society, serving as society secretary.[5][6]
She is also a member of the Third World Organization for Women in Science and the North West Indian Ocean Research Group.
