Hindi Sahitya Gyaankosh Hindi literature and Encyclopedia (encyclopedia) of various subjects related to it. The principal editor of this dictionary, published in seven parts, is Shambhunath. This Gyankosh has been published in the year 2019 by Indian Council of Languages, Kolkata.

Publication, Nature and Purpose[edit]

Hindi Sahitya Gyankosh has been composed under the aegis of Indian Language Council with the cooperation of many writers. Work on it started from April 2014.[1] Its editor-in-chief is Shambhunath. The editorial board consists of Radhavallabh Tripathi, Javarimalla Parakh, Awadhesh Pradhan, Awadhesh Kumar Singh, and Awadhesh Prasad Singh. The language editing has been done by Rajkishore and the coordinator has been done by Kusum Khemani. This gigantic work has been accomplished with the authorship of 275 authors.[1] Its writing and editing work was completed in a total of three years and it took two years for publication. Thus its first edition was published in 2019 AD. It is published practically in association with Vani Prakashan, New Delhi, whose name is given herein as its sole distributor.

Despite the name of this dictionary 'Hindi Sahitya Gyankosh', it is not limited to literary subjects only, but comparatively it focuses more on other subjects related to literature than on purely literary subjects. Its editor believes that "the meaning of literature has expanded in every era. At present, it is concerned with national cultures as much as it is with global concerns and multidimensional human development. Knowledge of the world is no longer possible without a broader cultural perspective and knowing a lot of things in the world."[2] It is in this context that this dictionary has been created. Keeping in view the changed and comprehensive form of knowledge according to today's era, it contains entries capable of satisfying the natural curiosity arising towards religion, social science, culture, media, art-literature, environment, human rights and various human civilizations. Because readers often depend on the Internet for the satisfaction of such curiosity and the Internet does not give them complete satisfaction. The editor is of the view that "the content available in Hindi on the Internet, however, is inadequate and stands at a chaotic point."[2] The English Wikipedia is rich enough. However, many academicians, historians and writers have refused to accept it as a reliable source of knowledge and have termed its reliance alone as fatal. The reason is that there is more uncontrolled rush of information than systematic knowledge.[3] For these reasons, 'Hindi Sahitya Gyankosh' has been created to fulfill the need of a critical and authentic encyclopedia related to Hindi literature in Hindi language.

In fact, it is more of a 'General Gyan-kosh' related to Hindi literature than being a knowledge dictionary of Hindi literature, which is critical in its nature and large in size.

Comparison with 'Hindi Sahitya Kosha'[edit]

Despite these seven volumes of "Hindi Sahitya Gyankosh" being highly useful, the usefulness of both the parts of "Hindi Sahitya Kosh edited by Dhirendra Verma and others remains completely intact. There are almost no entries in his Second Part (Nomenclature Vocabulary) in this encyclopedia. There are also no entries on top litterateurs like Kabir, Jayasi, Sur, Tulsi and Prasad, Nirala, Pant, Mahadevi. Only the details of some people related to the field of political, cultural and linguistics have been found in the encyclopedia. There are many entries of the 'Hindi Sahitya Kosh' First Part (Terminological Vocabulary) in this encyclopedia also. Still, there is much in it that is not there at all. For example, if the first few pages of both the dictionaries are also seen, then it is clearly visible that entries like surrealism, hyper-nationalism, monism and authoritarianism included in the first part of 'Hindi Sahitya Kosh' have been given in this encyclopedia.[5], But 'number', intuition, conscience, conscience, rhyming, part, anshavatara, akl (used in Sufi literature), Akshardham (used in pure dualism), agama, agudhvagya, agnichakra, aghorpanth, achintyabhedabhadvad, unconscious, ajapajapa, agnayadillauvana (used in pure dualism), Used in early Hindi literature), many entries have been completely omitted, such as superintelligence, extravagance, wonderful rasa, advaya, spiritualism etc.; Whereas all these entries are included in the first part of 'Hindi Sahitya Kosh' with adequate discussion.[6] This encyclopedia mainly focuses on newly developed terminology in the field of literature and non-literary terminology used in contemporary literature. The prevailing terminology has been taken as much, whose form has acquired a lot of innovation in the modern context.

Comparison with 'Sociology Encyclopedia'[edit]

All the entries in "Hindi Sahitya Gyankosh" and "Socio-Science Encyclopedia" together give a total of 313 entries in both. That is, the different utility of both remains intact. The many found have become useful for comparison as well as for different perspectives.

Comparison of "Hindi Sahitya Gyankosh" with "Socio-Science Encyclopedia" is useful because, despite being mainly focused on Sociology, in the 'Sociological Encyclopedia' [[Humanities] Entries related to ]] have also been taken and despite being mainly related to Hindi literature, entries related to social science have also been taken in 'Hindi Sahitya Gyankosh'. From the perusal of the entries available in both, it is clear that the discussion and detail of these entries are subject-wise. That is, in the 'Hindi Sahitya Gyankosh', such entries have been discussed relatively briefly from the point of view of level general knowledge for the study of Hindi literature, whereas in the 'Sociology-Science Encyclopedia', the depth and detail are given in terms of detailed theoretical and practical discussion as per the requirement. has been adopted. For example, in the entry titled 'Marxism' available in both these dictionaries, where the 'Hindi Sahitya Gyankosh' has a discussion of a little more than two pages.[7], Whereas 'Socio-Science Encyclopedia' contains 'Marxism-1' (Scientific Claim: Influence of Positivism), 'Marxism-2' (Reification vs Epistemological Dissection), 'Marxism-3' (Historical Materialism: Journey from Rule to Being). ), 'Marxism-4' (Question of foundation and overlay), 'Marxism-5' (Three points of restructuring) are given in about 14 pages with sufficiently detailed five entries.[8] There are four entries related to Marxism in addition to these. Similarly, in the entry of 'Hindi Sahitya Gyan Kosh' titled 'Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi', things of common sense are often mentioned in the form of non-violence, Champaran, fasting, satyagraha, non-cooperation, Dandi Yatra etc.[9]; Whereas Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi-1 (criticism of sensuous empiricist epistemology), Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi-2 (the deep epistemology of liberalism and democracy) and Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi-3 (South Africa, to explain Gandhi's ideology in the 'Sociological Encyclopedia'). The three entries titled Satyagraha and Non-cooperation) have been discussed in sufficient detail.[10]

Apart from this, a major difference in the method of both is that after each entry in the 'Sociological Encyclopedia', a list of other necessary entries related to that subject is given below so that they can be easily used for sufficient contextual information of the subject. Can you This has not been done in 'Hindi Sahitya Gyankosh'. Apart from this, after each entry in the 'Socio-Science Encyclopedia', the names of the reference texts are given with details, whereas in the 'Hindi Sahitya Gyankosh', some entries are given after the name 'for more information' and some entries are given.
