In 1900, a government-aided English high school named BM Union High School was established at Sonakanda Mauza in Narayanganj district, where the water desalination plant now stands. The institution is so named because it was established for the students of Bandar and Madanganj (BM) Union. The zamindar of the port Hari Mohan Sen and some nobles of Bandar-Madanganj union established this school. The school house was burnt down by a group of miscreants in 1921, possibly due to local factionalism [mainly English education, leadership].
