HitPoint Studios is a software development company based in Greenfield, MA that creates games and apps for mobile devices. HitPoint has created products for numerous game publishers and licensors over the past ten years, including Crayola, Disney, NBCUniversal, Microsoft, aisle411, and Dreamworks.

About[edit]

HitPoint Studios was formed in 2008, by Paul Hake and Aaron St. John. The company was originally based in Amherst MA, but moved to Springfield, MA following an investment of $1.25M from MassMutual, Crosswind Partners, and River Valley Investors.[1][2][3]. HitPoint then moved to Greenfield, MA in 2017[4].

Since 2016 and the launch of Google’s Tango platform, HitPoint has focused on creating Augmented Reality experiences[5]. Crayola Color Blaster, created in partnership with Legacy Games, was one of 35 initial games launched with the Tango[6]. The game was nominated in the Google Play Awards 2017 for Best AR Experience[7]. In 2017, Crayola Color Blaster was ported to Apple’s ARKit and Google’s ARCore[8][9]. HitPoint also developed a game for NBC Universal Kids, Kody Kapow, that supports ARKit and ARCore[10].

HitPoint partnered with aisle411 to design and develop an in-store wayfinding and shopping AR experience. Walgreens Co. subsequently launched the platform in its iPhone and Android mobile applications, making Walgreens in-store inventory instantly searchable and mappable in over 7,800 locations[11]. In 2017, aisle411 and HitPoint partnered again to deliver an AR treasure hunt at the MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas[12]. Blending gamification and precise indoor navigation, players searched for awards and prizes throughout the casino.

Paul Hake is HitPoint’s CEO. Ariella Lehrer, formerly CEO of Legacy Games, joined HitPoint as President in October, 2017[13]. Both Paul and Ariella are frequent speakers on Augmented Reality, as used in video games[14], industry[15][16], and education[17][18][19]
