Hitendra Wadhwa is an Indian-American entrepreneur and leadership expert in the United States. He is the founder of the Institute for Personal Leadership, a research-based organization that provides training and coaching to executives worldwide.[1] Wadhwa is also a professor at Columbia Business School, where he teaches the course, "Personal Leadership & Success."[2]

Wadhwa began his career at McKinsey & Company, the global management consulting firm.[1] In 1999, he founded Paramark, a marketing optimization technology startup in Silicon Valley that was acquired in 2002.[3][4] Wadhwa also founded Delphinity, an innovation consulting firm, in 2002. In 2011, he launched the Institute for Personal Leadership, which provides in-person and online leadership training for corporate executives.[1]

In 2003, Wadhwa became a Professor Professional Practice of marketing and strategy at Columbia Business School,[1] .[2] In 2012, he created the university's first online leadership executive education program.[5]

Teachings[edit]

Wadhwa's teachings are influenced by contemplative practices such as meditation and yoga in addition to modern science.[1] In an interview with the BBC World Service, Wadhwa states that the most critical precept to management is to "first learn to lead yourself."[6]

Wadhwa's teachings often draw on examples of personal character and inner leadership from icons including Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill, Abraham Lincoln, and Steve Jobs.[7]

He has developed the "Five Pillars of Personal Leadership": Purpose, Wisdom, Self-Realization, Love, and Growth.[1][8]
