Howard W. “Hoddy" Hanna III (born April 24, 1947) is an American businessman known for his work in the real estate industry. He is the Chairman of Hanna Holdings, Inc., parent company of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, the third-largest real estate company in the United States[1].
Early Life and Education[edit]
Hanna was born on April 24, 1947 to Anne Freyvogel Hanna and Howard W. Hanna Jr.,[2] founder of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services. After obtaining his real estate license at age 18, he worked as a real estate sales associate for Howard Hanna while attending college.[3]
He graduated from John Carroll University in 1969.[4]
Career[edit]
Hanna began his career in real estate as a sales associate at Howard Hanna Real Estate in 1965. He is currently Chairman of Hanna Holdings, Inc.
In the 1980s, Hanna led the expansion of the company into offering mortgage services.[2] In 2002, Hanna testified before the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and its Subcommittee on Financial Institutions regarding the need for open competition between banks and real estate agencies.[5] In the 1990s and 2000s, Hanna led the company through a series of acquisitions.[6]
Philanthropy[edit]
Hanna serves as president of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation and is the chairperson of the company Howard Hanna Children’s Free Care Fund fundraising campaign, which as of 2017 has raised more than $14 million[7][8] for children’s hospitals and related programs in markets the company serves.
Hanna has served on many boards, including the Board of Directors of John Carroll University, the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.[9]
